First, his appointment of Le Maire; second, Le Maire's first visit, to Barroso (no doubt at Sarkozy's wish). <br /><br />As you note, the time seems propitious for a return to the old Franco-German leadership of the EU (to Sarkozy's delight). But he also has a Commission President who has shown more than willing to roll over for any strong EU leader (to the extent even of over-ruling Commissioners who disturb a leader's wishes).<br /><br />Some of the newer, Eastern members of the EU may be happy for more subsidies to farmers, and will lend their support to such.<br /><br />Dangerous times ahead, methinks.french dereknoreply@blogger.com
